The Story of Home Town Roots

The story of Home Town Roots might sound familiar. Two people who were highly passionate and talented coming together to do what they love. Striking out on their own, and starting their own business. Where our story differs, is how two people, separated by a great distance ended up down the same path of family, friendship, and fabulous hair.

Megan may be a transplant from Denver, Colorado, but she fell in love with Michigan at an early age. So after completing her education at the Aveda Institute of Denver, it was an easy choice to make her way to the Mitten and plant some roots. In 2007 she moved to Michigan, where she would meet Maria and her future husband Derek. He is a son of Saline, and one of its brave firefighters. Together they have two wonderful children, who can regularly be heard laughing at the salon.

Maria was born and raised in Saline, and attended the Huron Valley Beauty Academy. Her deep passion for her hometown shows through in almost everything she does. Whether it’s her volunteer work at her church, where she and her husband Mike run the nursery and preschool ministry, or just the way she talks about the town. Mike is also a Saline native, and works at Liebherr Aerospace. Mike and Maria have three lovely children, who you may also catch brightening up HTR from time to time.

Through their mutual love of family, community, and hair styling Maria and Megan were a match made in heaven for an amazing friendship and to be fantastic business partners. After years working in the salon industry, they decided to put that formula to the test and opened Home Town Roots Salon in July of 2018. Now they spend their days bringing upscale styles with a hometown feel. They hope you feel right at home at HTR.
